Fostering employee well-being is a critical part of the success of every business. For a small business owner, implementing a workplace wellness program may be a bit challenging, but it can be done. By combining your small business insurance coverage and some creativity, you can encourage workplace wellness and perhaps gain some financial benefits from doing so.

Encourage Activity

Consider having standing or walking meetings when you need to speak with your employees. Before the start of each work day, have everyone do five minutes of activity, such as marching in place. Encourage your workers to take a walk on their breaks. Find out if your small business insurance coverage offers discounts to employee gym memberships. Your insurance coverage costs might decrease if your employees show improvements in health indicators such as body mass index (BMI), blood pressure or cholesterol.

Offer Healthy Options

If you have a vending machine for your staff, have it filled with healthy options such as trail mix and beef jerky instead of candy bars and potato chips. Offer bottled water or sparkling water rather than soda. If you have an employee who is under stress, provide resources for healthy coping such as, information about local counselors or stress-relief programs such as yoga or meditation.

Make It Competitive

Many people enjoy a challenge. Set up a competition with everyone’s fitness trackers to see who gets the most steps and offer simple prizes to the winners. Consider starting a workplace activity club such as a softball team.

Fostering employee well-being does not have to be expensive or time-consuming. These activities might even help to lower the price you pay for insurance coverage. Healthier employees who feel appreciated and taken care of can also help to boost the success and profitability of your business.
